About the Role
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Children’s Wisconsin (CW) seeks a board certified/board eligible physician to join an expanding division of nationally and internationally renowned faculty and staff committed to clinical care.
Through the Forward Pediatric Alliance (FPA), a partnership between the Herma Heart Institute at Children’s Wisconsin and UW Health Kids/American Family Children’s Hospital, fellows benefit from two vibrant academic medical centers. The combined program includes five interventional cardiologists with diverse training backgrounds and an annual catheterization volume of approximately 650-700 cases.
This position is primarily based at Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee but includes credentialing at both sites, allowing participation in catheterization procedures at the University of Wisconsin’s American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison. This expands exposure to a broader range of procedures and practice approaches.
Responsibilities
- Clinical experience in the Children’s Wisconsin catheterization laboratory averaging approximately three days per week.
- Additional catheterization laboratory experience in Madison averaging approximately one day per week, with flexibility to accommodate educational or complex cases.
- Participation in a weekly pediatric cardiology continuity clinic with independent responsibility for managing general cardiology patients and pre-/post-catheterization care under supervision.
- Collaboration with a highly experienced physician assistant proficient in clinical and procedural responsibilities.
- Presentation of cases and participation in weekly clinical care conferences and multidisciplinary conferences.
- Mentorship of general cardiology fellows in case preparation and presentation.
- Assistance with after-hours cases averaging approximately two times per week, with availability for emergent catheterization cases during off-hours.
- Development and completion of a scholarly project resulting in submission of abstracts to national scientific meetings and potential peer-reviewed publication.
- Provision of bedside and formal education to medical students, residents, and fellows as deemed necessary by the supervising cardiology team.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair or Chair-Designate.
Schedule
- 1.0 FTE (full-time equivalent).
- Call ratio as described above (after-hours and emergent cases).
