Holy Ghost Catholic School, Houston, TX – Full-time Instructional Specialist position providing instructional and coaching support to teachers, with a focus on intervention for struggling students in an individual setting.
About the Role
The Instructional Specialist is integral to the success of instructional processes and implementation, working under the general supervision of the Principal. This role requires demonstrated effective instructional skills and the ability to earn the trust of staff members.
Responsibilities
- Model enthusiasm, commitment, and intensity for mastery of pedagogy.
- Visit classrooms daily to:
- Encourage and support teachers in creating Academic Learning Time for every student.
- Demonstrate strategies to improve learning.
- Observe and problem-solve with teachers on overcoming student literacy obstacles.
- Be "on call" to support teachers with questions and concerns.
- Organize and lead weekly needs-based staff development programs focused on benchmark accomplishments.
- Organize and monitor assessment processes and data analysis for student reading performance and instructional grouping.
- Assist teachers with analysis and instructional use of student formative reading data, providing intervention when needed.
- Ensure effective communication with the Leadership Team.
- Facilitate weekly grade-level or team meetings focused on goal accomplishment.
- Continually upgrade literacy and instructional knowledge and skills.
- Facilitate the development and publication of a bi-monthly Literacy Newsletter for parents.
- Monitor and ensure data entry is current.
Requirements
- Certification/License in Reading Mastery.
- State Certification as an Elementary Teacher.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline.
- Master’s Degree in a related area preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
