About the role
To work closely with students identified as having a disability in an effort to provide them with the physical, emotional, behavioral, and academic support necessary to gain full benefits from the district's special education program.
Responsibilities
- Aids students in the completion of classroom activities assigned by the Intervention Specialist.
- Aids the Intervention Specialist in routine classroom and school activities, implementation of IEP services, behavior plans, student assessment, playground and lunch duty.
- Prepares classroom materials, displays, and individual student accommodations and modifications.
- Aids special education students in regular education classes, including attending class with the student and providing student supports as needed and/or indicated on IEP.
- Maintains a good learning environment, including classroom management.
- Assists in the preparation of classroom materials, displays, and individual student accommodations and modifications.
- Aids Intervention Specialist in maintaining a good learning environment, including classroom management.
- Assists students with personal health care needs such as toileting, personal hygiene, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Participates in professional growth activities.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
- One of the following requirements is needed for compliance:
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester or 72 quarter hours as verified by college transcript from an accredited institution of higher education).
- Obtain an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education (defined as any associate degree program from an accredited institution of higher education).
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment -- (i) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics; or (ii) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in readiness for reading, writing, and mathematics.
Qualifications
- Good human relations with an ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
- A neat appearance.
