Instructional Paraprofessional (Communication Para for Speech Therapy) - Future Lake Mountain District

About the role

The job of Communication Paraprofessional is done for the purpose of providing communication support to the instructional program within the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the speech, special education and/or general education classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising Speech Language Pathologist for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
• Assists data collection under the direction of the Speech Pathologist and/or assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
• Attends job specific training and meetings (e.g. first aid, behavior management, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
• Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
• Implements, under the supervision of the Speech Pathologist and/or assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Maintains AAC devices, instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
• Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating communication in a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g. screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective operations.
• Provides, under the supervision of the Speech Pathologist and/or assigned teacher, communication support/instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP and/or 504 plans; and ensuring student success in school.
• Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
• Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students.

Requirements

• Age 16+
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.

Pay

• Untrained – Lane 5: $15.61 per hour
• Trained – Lane 6: $16.62 per hour (Employee will have the option to complete an in-district training which will qualify them for lane 6)

Hours a day: 5.8 hours
