The San Diego County Office of Education’s (SDCOE) mission is to inspire and lead innovation in education. SDCOE aims to serve as an educational leader and trusted partner to transform public education and guarantee high levels of student achievement. In partnership with local school districts and the global learning community, SDCOE researches and applies innovative 21st-century practices, leverages resources, develops strategic alliances, inspires powerful leadership, and provides exemplary customized services to districts, communities, and students in all SDCOE-operated programs.
Since 1995, SDCOE’s Science Outreach programs have been inspiring San Diego County youth through hands-on programs to become responsible stewards of their watershed and community. These programs connect with schools throughout the county. With each visit, science educators work to enhance student knowledge on key environmental issues and system dynamics.
The Instructional Internship position develops the skills of those passionate about the environment and working with students. This is a great opportunity for those looking to gain teaching experience and engage the community about environmental science.
Responsibilities
- Travel to school sites throughout San Diego County to facilitate two science enrichment programs
- Interact with students of varying ages, learning abilities, and cultural/social dynamics
- Work in small student groups (10 students to 1 educator)
- Deliver grade-level-focused program activities for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade
Requirements
- Must be able to commit to full days of instruction (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Work schedule can accommodate other commitments (school, work, personal)
- Must commit to a full school year of employment (Start Date to June)
Qualifications
- Open to all majors
- Interns may be enrolled in school or a recent graduate
Pay
$17 per hour
