About the role
The Instructional Designer will lead the creation and maintenance of Outcome School's content library, translating complex program knowledge into clear, self-service documentation for non-specialist volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Build, structure, and maintain Outcome School's content library on GitBook — including instructor guidebooks, training materials, and onboarding resources for volunteer facilitators
- Translate complex program knowledge into clear, self-service documentation that non-specialist volunteers can follow independently
- Write learner-facing and instructor-facing educational content — course materials, training guides, how-to articles — in a clear, consistent voice
- Apply instructional design principles (learning objectives, scaffolding, age-appropriate framing) to make materials usable and effective
- Design and build slide decks in Google Slides for workshops, stakeholder updates, training sessions, and outreach
Requirements
- Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Experience Design, Educational Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Understanding of adult learning theories and instructional design models (Bloom's Taxonomy, ADDIE, etc.)
- Ability to translate complex, dense topics into clear, digestible, and visually engaging training materials
- Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience designing online courses and learning materials
- Familiarity with tools like GitBook, Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Figma, or Canva
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with instructional design principles and models
- Proficiency with GitBook, Google Slides, and other relevant tools
