Temporary position in the Veterinary Technology Program at Ventura College. This is a provisional assignment; employees are considered at-will and do not accrue property interest or benefits.

About the role

Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, assist instructors and Instructional Lab Technicians in the implementation of the Veterinary Technology program.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of an instructor, assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce or follow up on instructions.
  • Assist instructors and staff in the demonstration of the proper care and handling of animals.
  • Assist instructors and staff in the preparation, set-up, and clean-up of specialized instruments, equipment, and materials used for class presentations, teaching demonstrations, student projects, and practical assignments.
  • Demonstrate the operation, use, and care of a variety of tools and equipment including radiology machines, anesthesia machines, blood machines, large and small animal handling and restraint equipment, patient monitors, various supplies, needles and syringes, autoclave, surgical instruments, ultrasound, and ultrasound cleaner.
  • Participate in ensuring that the safety and security policies and rules of the veterinary technology laboratory courses are observed.
  • Meet with instructors and/or staff to plan learning activities for the veterinary technology laboratory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of high school or other educational equivalent and two years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
  • or successful completion of a Veterinary Assistant program and one year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.

The Veterinary Technology Associate of Science Degree Program is a two-tier pathway starting with a Veterinary Assistant Certificate of Achievement. The program prepares students for careers in the veterinary and animal healthcare industry and for the national licensing exam to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.
