Instructional Assistant - Veterinary Technology Program (Temporary Position)

Representative Duties

  • E Assist instructors and staff in the demonstration of the proper care and handling of animals.
  • E Assist instructors and staff in the preparation, set-up, and clean-up of specialized instruments, equipment, and materials used for class presentations, teaching demonstrations, student projects, and practical assignments.
  • E Under the guidance of an instructor, demonstrate the operation, use, and care of a variety of tools and equipment including radiology machines, anesthesia machines, blood machines, large and small animal handling and restraint equipment, patient monitors, various supplies, needles, and syringes, autoclave, surgical instruments, ultrasound, and ultrasound cleaner.
  • E Participate in ensuring that the safety and security policies and rules of the veterinary technology laboratory courses are observed.
  • E Meet with instructors and/or staff to plan learning activities for the veterinary technology laboratory.
  • E Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of high school or other educational equivalent AND two years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
  • OR Successful completion of a Veterinary Assistant program AND one year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.

Paid Holidays

The Ventura County Community College District offers 15 paid holidays per year, plus 2 additional floating holidays.

Health Benefits

The District contributes up to the full premium cost of the PPO 90C or Kaiser HMO plan (whichever is higher) toward any eligible medical plan for full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Dental, vision, and Basic life insurance premiums for full-time employees and their eligible dependents are also District paid.

Retirement

Eligible employees in positions of 20 or more hours per week are enrolled in CalPERS (California Public Employees' Retirement System).
