Instructional Assistant - Intense Intervention

Purpose

Provides both direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the special needs teacher(s).

Qualifications

• Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred.
• Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
• Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to take direction.
• Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments.
• Patience and genuine interest in education of students.
• Awareness and respect for student diversity.
• Clerical skills, flexibility and confidentiality required.
• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
• A lift test will be required.
• May be required to drive a special education van with students as passengers (2-6 students) with additional adult supervision.
