- Instructional Assistant I: $18.11 - $20.65 per hour
- Instructional Assistant II: $18.58 - $24.47 per hour
- Instructional Assistant III: $19.66 - $25.93 per hour
Based on the CSEA General Unit Salary Schedule.
Schedule
- Part-time, permanent position
- 9 months per year (206 days/year, 5 days/week)
- Work hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM (6.5 hours/day)

About the Role
Instructional Assistants support students in various educational settings. The role varies by level (I, II, or III), with increasing responsibility and specialization:
Responsibilities
- Instructional Assistant I:
- Work with groups of children in general education or support settings.
- Instructional Assistant II:
- Support students in Resource, Learning Handicap, or Communicatively Handicapped programs.
- Run small groups, assist in large groups (Special Day Class or General Education), and support teacher needs.
- Instructional Assistant III:
- Support students with severe emotional disturbances or autism.
- Work in Learning Handicap, Communicatively Handicapped, or Emotionally Disturbed (ED) programs.
- Assist individual students under the guidance of a Behaviorist.
In some programs, possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire is required.
Requirements
All applicants must meet the following pre-qualification requirements by attaching the specified documentation:
Non-Title Sites:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and one of the following:
- Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 or later). Request a digital test here.
- Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
Title I Sites:
- One of the following:
- Passing score from SJUSD's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 or later). Schedule a test here.
- Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
- Official transcripts demonstrating completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units).
- Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher).
- Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
Additional Requirements by Level:
- IA I:
- Relevant experience working with groups of children.
- IA II:
- Experience working with students in mild/moderate special education programs (e.g., Resource, Learning Handicap, or Communicatively Handicapped).
- IA III:
- Experience working with students with severe emotional disturbances or autism.
- Experience working with impaired children or adults is highly desirable.
- Coursework in child development is highly desirable.
