About the role

Instructional Assistant I / II / III supporting students with severe or emotional disturbances in Learning Handicap, Communicatively Handicap, emotionally disturbed (ED), autism, or behaviorist-assigned programs.

Experience working with groups of children, especially impaired children or adults, is highly desirable. Coursework in child development is also highly desirable.

In some programs, possession of—or willingness and ability to obtain—a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist individual students designated as emotionally disturbed or in autism classes
• Support students assigned to a Behaviorist
• Work with groups of children in specialized programs

Requirements

• Must pre-qualify by providing one of the following:
  • [A] Passing score from SJUSD’s Proficiency Exam (April 2005 or later; no other district’s exam accepted)
  • [B] Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
  • [C] Official transcripts showing completion of two years of college (48 semester / 60 quarter units)
  • [D] Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher). Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

$19.66 – $25.93 per hour (CSEA General Unit Salary Schedule)

Schedule

• 9-month elementary instructional assistant calendar (18A)
• 206 days per year, 5 days per week
• 6.5-hour workday: Monday – Friday, 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM
