About the role

Permanent, part-time position at Whitney Ave Elementary School. Salary follows the CSEA General Unit schedule: $20.64 – $27.23 per hour. Benefits are included. Work year is 9 months (206 days, 5 days/week). Daily schedule: 6.5 hours, Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Support students in Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicapped programs.
• Assist in classrooms serving students designated as emotionally disturbed (ED), autism, or those assigned to a Behaviorist.
• Work with groups of children and provide support to individual students as needed.

Qualifications

• Any combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties.
• Experience working with groups of children; experience with impaired children or adults is highly desirable.
• Coursework in child development is highly desirable.
• In some programs, possession of—or willingness and ability to obtain—a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire may be required.

Requirements

Applicants must pre-qualify by attaching one of the following:

• [A] Passing score from SJUSD’s Proficiency Exam (testing date April 2005 or later).
• [B] Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
• [C] Official transcripts demonstrating completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units).
• [D] Proof of an A.A. degree or higher.

Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated for equivalency to U.S. accreditation.
