Instructional Assistant

About the role

The Instructional Assistant supports the Kindergarten classroom under the supervision of the principal. Responsibilities include assisting the teacher in classroom management, student supervision, and providing a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Absorbs responsibility to assist the classroom teacher
• Assists in supervision and care of students
• Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe physical environment
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and outdoor play
• Aids in classroom set up, clean up, and materials preparation
• Aids in arrangement, maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the classroom
• Establishes good rapport with children
• Aids the teacher in working with individuals and groups of students
• Utilizes respectful individual and responsive care-giving practices with students
• Engages children in meaningful learning activities and experiences throughout class time
• Communicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacher
• Aids parent volunteers helping in the classroom
• Treats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner
• Establishes and maintains cooperative, supportive, and effective relationships with all school and parish personnel
• Maintains punctuality and availability for work
• Performs other related duties as assigned and demonstrates ability to be flexible

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be a high school graduate or GED
• Must participate in Safe Environment (Called to Protect) Training and sign the Code of Ethics Policy
• Must undergo fingerprinting

Qualifications

• Catholics must make a public profession of faith
• Non-Catholics must sign the Diocese of Phoenix Division of Education and Evangelization Profession of Faith form
• Assists with indoor and outdoor recreational activities
• Communicates in English at a level sufficient for successful job performance
• Effectively supervises and cares for students in their play and classroom routines
• Maintains the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively
