About the role

The part-time Instructional Aide: Visual and Performing Arts for Drama supports students grades 9-12 in visual and/or performing arts courses. This role works 5 days per week, 4 hours per day (at least 20 hours and less than 30 hours).

Responsibilities

  • Cook up instructional efforts with the teacher to assist with daily learning activities in drama, advanced drama, visual arts, and/or AP Art courses.
  • Under immediate supervision, follow the lead of the teacher in providing small group or 1:1 instruction in arts content to students with and without disabilities.
  • Engage in coaching sessions with the Green Dot Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator and/or the credentialed teacher to develop instructional skills.
  • Prepare various teaching aids and materials such as visuals, copies, art/drama supplies, etc.
  • Adapt educational materials/manipulatives to promote differentiated learning for students with disabilities, emergent bilinguals and other student groups identified by the teacher.
  • Use a variety of technology platforms and applications to support student learning.
  • Absorb classroom materials, equipment, and displays such as preparing bulletin boards, posting student work, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional needs, and creating an orderly and clean classroom environment.
  • Observe and report behavior of students in and out of the classroom and support with implementing the school’s behavior policy.
  • Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures. Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed students: may administer prescribed medication in accordance with established school procedure.
  • Participate in meetings, in-service training programs and field trips as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member.

Qualifications

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree OR
  • Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills assisting in instruction (e.g., CBEST) AND one of the following:
    • Have a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND have completed at least two years of college (48 units)
    • Attainment of an AA degree
  • Have demonstrated skills in visual and/or performing arts and are confident supporting high school students in arts content.
  • Have six months experience working with adolescents/children in a structured learning environment (preferred).
  • Verifiable supervised experience as a volunteer in a school or related organizational activity may be substituted on an equal basis.

Job Requirements

  • Work Hours: This position requires consistent attendance during scheduled hours, as flexibility is limited by classroom or operational requirements.
  • Physical Requirements: The position may require certain physical abilities, such as interacting with prospective families, traveling across Los Angeles County, walking or standing for long periods or moving through various parts of the school.
  • Social Requirements: The position requires extensive interaction with students, colleagues, and members of the public.
  • On-Site Presence: This role requires regular, in-person attendance to meet the needs of students, staff, and the school environment.
  • Remote work/telecommuting is generally not an option.

Compensation

The starting hourly rate range for this position is $21.50 - $23.23, based on education. Because this is a part-time position, benefits are not included.
