Position Summary

Facilitates an instructional program that aligns with state standards. Provides feedback online to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Works part-time, up to 19 hours per week, supporting no more than 70 students per semester, 55 per trimester, or 45 per summer term.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Facilitates instructional activities and supplemental materials for Michigan Virtual students in certified content areas.
  • Maintains regular communications with MV staff, students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Maintains a minimum of one office hour a week between 8:00am and 7:00pm.
  • Provides detailed feedback, grading, and assessment of student work within 72 hours.
  • Maintains accurate records of students' progress and development.
  • Engages in the development of a virtual class culture.
  • Prepares required monthly progress updates and attendance reports.
  • Attends in-person and virtual professional development events.

Required Education, Certifications, & Licenses

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Secondary Teaching Certificate in specific content area with Highly Qualified status.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of one to three years of successful teaching at the middle or high school level.

Desired Education and/or Experience

  • Master's degree or higher preferred (Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Content Specific).
  • Experience teaching online and/or in a blended learning environment preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Sit in a normal seated or standing position in front of a computer for extended periods.
  • Noisy environment with low to moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
