Instructional Aide I - Special Education
About the role
Hacienda La Puente Unified School District seeks to hire a Paraprofessional to assist in conducting intensified learning or physical education experiences for Individuals with Exceptional Needs (IWENs). The position involves performing a variety of instructional activities and clerical tasks under the supervision of an administrator.
Responsibilities
- Assists in conducting intensified learning or physical education experiences for Individuals with Exceptional Needs (IWENs).
- Absolutely no lifting or carrying of heavy objects.
- Performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel.
- May at times perform diapering, changing soiled clothes due to incontinence.
Requirements
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one of the following:
- A minimum of 48 semester or 72 quarter units of college coursework.
- An Associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university.
- Pass an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing and mathematics.
Qualifications
One year of paid or volunteer experience within an educational or child care setting, preferably serving special education students.
Skills
Knowledge of English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar, basic arithmetical concepts, student behavior management techniques and strategies, learning problems of children with special educational needs, concepts of child development and child behavior characteristics, simple record keeping and record management, public education goals and objectives, basic housekeeping methods.

Paid holidays up to 16 per year, vacation prorated based on hours and months worked, health benefits for positions 35 hours or more per week, partially paid benefits for part-time (20-34) hour employees, retirement through PERS for positions 20 hours or more per week.
Pay
Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($20.77 per hour) of Range 15 of the CSEA Salary Schedule.

Part-time openings (10 months/30 hours per week).
