Instructional Aide (7 hours/10 months), G&P

About the role

The Instructional Aide supports instruction in an elementary classroom, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the educational, emotional, and behavioral development of students.

Responsibilities

• Provide support in reading/literacy, math, written language, and social-emotional behavior (with guidance)
• Collaborate with general education and special education staff
• Support formal and informal assessments as directed by teaching staff
• Accommodate and modify for student learning
• Support the general education teacher with the implementation of appropriate accommodations in the general education setting
• Toileting of students is a duty that an individual may be expected and required to perform as a paraprofessional employed by the Cambridge Public Schools
• Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• A commitment to ensuring that students have access to high-quality instructional and social-emotional support
• Above-average skills in collaboration and flexible problem-solving
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university preferred
• Experience with children in an urban environment
• Assist in addressing the physical, educational, and social-emotional needs of the students
• Willingness to be trained in de-escalation and safe physical restraint techniques
• Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers in curriculum implementation, use of manipulatives, and other instructional methods and materials
