About the role

Join KDHE as a Healthcare Reimbursement Professional and support hospitals to ensure Medicaid recipients receive the care they deserve. This role engages directly with state senior leadership, offering the opportunity to make a lasting impact on Kansas’s healthcare landscape.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Health Care Access Improvement Program (HCAIP) to implement effective payment methodologies that accurately reimburse hospitals serving Medicaid members.
• Conduct research on payment methodologies approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Oversee the distribution of payments to hospitals, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for over $1 billion in annual funding.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital stakeholders, addressing their needs and ensuring clear communication.
• Review and verify consultants’ work in calculating hospital reimbursements to maintain high standards of accuracy.
• Analyze and validate encounter data and Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) data to guarantee appropriate reimbursements for hospitals.
• Advise leadership on proposed new payment methodologies from CMS, ensuring they benefit both hospitals and Medicaid beneficiaries.

Requirements

• Degree in Business, Health Information Management, Finance, or a related field. Experience in financial management and Medicaid reimbursement is a plus.
• Valid Driver’s License—incumbent must maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, private vehicle, or rental vehicle for state business.
• Four years’ experience in a business-related field or mathematics. Experience may substitute for education as determined relevant by the agency.
• Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate—required for all state employees. Applicants must obtain this within ten days of a formal job offer.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Strong proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.
• Experience in cost accounting, Medicaid, relationship management, or medical claims.
• Experience compiling, analyzing, and working with databases.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $32.78 – $35.98. Salary varies based on education, experience, or qualifications.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible schedules available). Full-time, regular position with benefits.
