Institutional Giving Officer

Job Overview

The Institutional Giving Officer is responsible for building and maintaining an institutional giving program that supports Borealis' nine collaborative funds and general operating support. This position involves developing grant proposals and reports, prospecting and cultivating donors, and supporting the development of cross-fund fundraising strategies.

Responsibilities

• Develop Grant Proposals and Reports: Collaborate with program staff to write compelling grant proposals, manage proposal development and reporting, and ensure alignment with donor priorities.
• Manage Portfolio of Grants: Track and fulfill grant obligations, develop reports, and coordinate touchpoints to maintain strong relationships with donors.
• Institutional Donor Prospecting and Cultivation: Research and vet prospective donors, develop cultivation strategies, and initiate, nurture, and deepen relationships with institutions.
• Fundraising Strategy Support: Support the development of cross-fund fundraising strategies, prepare donor-facing assets, and assist with donor engagement activities.
• Team Support and Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to resolve issues, design process changes, and enhance grant and donor tracking systems.
• Other Duties: Handle confidential donor information with sensitivity, manage multiple tasks, and contribute to cross-disciplinary teamwork and planning.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with five (5) years of experience, or a combination of education and experience.
• Five (5) years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising role, including working with institutional funders.
• Experience with CRM databases, Salesforce preferred.
• Experience using systems and tools such as Zoom, Google Suite, Slack, and Asana.

• Excellent writing skills, grant writing experience, and the ability to synthesize information, interpret data, and incorporate feedback as part of the writing process.
• Strong oral communication skills and demonstrated experience building relationships with funders.
• Ability to handle confidential donor information with sensitivity and integrity.
• Problem-solving, planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks.
• Collaborative and relationship-building skills within a diverse virtual work environment.
• Project management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills, with excellent attention to details and good follow-through.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional, virtual, home office or co-working environment, with local and national travel. The employee is generally required to spend long periods of time sitting, typing, and working at a computer. May require the ability to occasionally lift and transport items.
