Installation Technician I

About the role

The Installation Technician 1 performs installation tasks on contracted projects, including cable pulls, cable terminations, system equipment and components, rack systems, and metal fabrication according to project directives. Coordinates with the lead Technician to ensure projects meet time, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation tasks such as cable pulls, terminations, system equipment and component installation, rack systems, and metal fabrication
• Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints
• Use hand and power tools to solder and crimp connectors and complete AV systems installation tasks
• Assist Lead Technician with management and security of equipment and tools on jobsite
• Assist with basic mechanical fabrication and rack wiring
• Travel to various job sites as required
• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities to support the team and organization

Requirements

• Willingness to register as a Connecticut Low Voltage Electrical Apprentice and complete required on-the-job training and classroom instruction to obtain a Connecticut C6 Low Voltage Electrical License
• Willingness to register as a Rhode Island Apprentice (documented on-the-job training hours)
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout Connecticut (Stamford, Greenwich, and surrounding areas), Western Massachusetts, and Rhode Island
• Commitment to professional development through apprenticeship programs, classroom training, and hands-on field experience
• Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets AVI-SPL Driving Privileges standards
• Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Employees driving company or personal vehicles must maintain valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

Skills

• Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and vendors
• Customer service oriented with a focus on client satisfaction
• Basic understanding of audio-visual systems (projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, video conferencing equipment, digital signage, control systems)
• Basic proficiency in installing, terminating, and troubleshooting low-voltage cabling (HDMI, CAT5e/6, fiber optic) and experience with conduit runs, cable trays, and wiring methods
• Basic ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with audiovisual equipment and systems
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently
• Basic understanding of network infrastructure and integration with audiovisual systems (IP-based systems, streaming, cloud-based services)
• Ability to work and think independently and meet deadlines

Nice-to-haves

• Formal education in Electronics or related field
• Ability to obtain formal approved clearances (Government or system specific)

• Use of tools and equipment as required
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical support)

Pay

Hourly rate between $20.20/hr and $26.45/hr.
