About the role
Responsible for performing heavy-duty modifications on trucks and truck-mounted equipment, plus vehicle repair and maintenance work in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards under the general direction of the Frame Shop Manager.
Responsibilities
- Installation and removal of different types of truck bodies and equipment
- Modification of truck wheelbases
- Installation and removal of truck suspensions
- Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards
- Fabrication and installation of components related to truck equipment installations
- Keep shop area neat and clean and account for all tools at all times
- Use and maintain all necessary shop equipment required to complete repairs or PM inspections
- Dispose of used oil, grease, antifreeze, and filters in the assigned location to ensure EPA compliance
- Clean and properly equip assigned area to perform all necessary repairs to equipment
- Attend factory-sponsored training classes
- Ensure customers’ trucks are kept clean
- Work with all departments in harmony
- Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the Company’s Job Safety policies
- Attend and participate in Custom Truck safety training classes
Requirements
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Knowledge of 12V electrical systems including multiplex wiring
- Basic understanding of truck-mounted hydraulic systems and installation procedures
- Ability to follow both written and verbal installation instructions
- ASE certification preferred
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- General mechanical skills required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and management
- Highly detail-oriented and organized in work
- Acceptable written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a customer service focus
- Initiative and ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction
- Strong desire to learn
- Mechanical skills/experience with heavy trucks and heavy equipment are a plus
Physical Demands
- Occasionally required to walk; climb stairs and ladders; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
- Required to sit and regularly move about the facility
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; assistance required for lifting more than 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
- Work well within a matrix organization
