About the Role

As an Installation Technician at Diversified, you’ll perform a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This key field position handles the bulk of the actual work in client buildings. You’ll coordinate with project management, field superintendents, and others to understand your role on specific projects, interpret drawing packages, and create the basis of finished systems. Installations may include displays, projectors, loudspeakers, microphones, equipment racks, and more. You’ll also provide advice and guidance to Associate Installation Technicians as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all skills from the Associate Install Technician and most skills from the Associate Fabrication Technician job descriptions to install components and make modifications on-site as necessary.
  • Execute physical installation of a wide variety of technology in diverse locations.
  • Perform a wide range of cabling terminations for all wire and connector types and test completed terminations.
  • Support the preparation of equipment racks for staging, including wire lacing, installation of power strips, grounding bars, and jack-fields.
  • Read and understand functional design drawings, cable riser diagrams, and architectural drawings.
  • Assist in mounting base build equipment such as monitor mounts, ceiling speakers, microphones, and projectors.
  • Maintain consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic or extended overtime to meet deadlines.
  • Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
  • Provide daily feedback to the Project Manager or Site Superintendent.
  • Build and wire custom designs from engineering drawings.
  • Handle, install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables.
  • Print and make minor corrections to cable labels.
  • Maintain an organized work environment, including cleanliness and orderliness of the shop and jobsites.
  • Maintain toolkit, company vehicles, and installation materials inventories.
  • Keep personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications up to date (some states have specific requirements).
  • Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry and work performed reports.
  • Work independently on client job sites with minimal supervision; coordinate with clients, contractors, and subcontractors on smaller projects.
  • Exercise good judgment and diplomacy when working with clients and stakeholders on job sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2 years as an associate technician and/or fabrication technician or related industry experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.
  • AVIXA CTS Certification is desired.
  • OSHA 30 Certificate is highly desired (NYC OSHA 30 preferred).
  • Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.

Skills

  • Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of low voltage electrical concepts.
  • Basic carpentry and/or installation skills.
  • Proficient and safe use of power tools.
  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The role involves exposure to construction site conditions on a regular basis. You’ll be responsible for your safety while on job sites and must comply with all safety regulations set by the general contractor. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is usually required.

  • Spend at least 60% of your time on your feet and mobile around construction sites.
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Regular use of keyboards, test equipment, and controls required for system installation projects.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • When not on construction sites, you’ll experience normal office conditions and use standard office equipment.

Travel

  • Frequent travel by car is required; you must possess a valid driver’s license in your state of residence.
  • Use of your own vehicle is required, with reimbursement for mileage at the current corporate rate.
  • 70-90% of travel is local to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way), but remote travel can account for up to 30% of the job at times.
  • 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis.
