About the role

The Working Title Installation & Repair Technician at Tidewater Community College supports the college’s audio visual and microcomputer devices and peripheral equipment in a multi-vendor, multi-protocol, voice, video, and data network. This role involves providing professional, courteous, and timely end user support to the college’s staff, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Performs on-site and in-shop inspection, installation, testing, and repair of Audio Visual and microcomputer devices and peripheral equipment.
  • Provides professional, courteous, and timely end user support to the college’s staff, faculty, and students.
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of any proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding the college or its students, faculty, or staff.
  • Aids in ensuring desktop standardization and performance.
  • Utilizes diagnostic and data recovery software to install, setup, and configure common application software packages and operating systems.
  • Assists in performing setup and maintenance of network interface systems.
  • Tests wiring, IP telephone equipment and peripherals for switched and non-switched services.
  • Installs and tests Audio Visual Equipment.
  • Interprets written requests, coordinates work with customers, installs or repairs requested services, documents, interacts with Telecom, Network, and Support Specialists regarding such services, provides first level customer support, and completes appropriate paperwork.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, peripheral devices, and desktop computer applications.
  • Knowledge of local area networks, including Telecommunications Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and its application in a large WAN/LAN environment.
  • Knowledge of Anti-Virus and Network Security Scanning Software, as well as security policies and procedures for a large WAN/LAN environment.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair desktop computers, operating systems, and peripherals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of end users and other technical staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross-departmental project team.
  • Ability to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult situations while maintaining composure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting day-to-day needs.
  • Experience in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing IBM compatible computer equipment, Operating systems and peripheral devices.
  • A+ certification or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various types of Audio Visual (Crestron, Extron, TV transmission Systems, Web Camera Systems) equipment utilized in classroom and to display student information.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional or equivalent experience.
  • Network+ Operation of a State Vehicle.

Skills

  • Ability to configure and employ LAN management, performance, and evaluation tools such as SCCM to evaluate network performance in a complex, multi-campus WAN/LAN environment.
  • Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot Audio Visual Equipment (Control Systems, TVs, Cameras, Microphones, Amps, and associated wiring) in a conference room and classroom environment.
  • Knowledge of various types of Audio Visual (Crestron, Extron, TV transmission Systems, Web Camera Systems) equipment utilized in classroom and to display student information.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional or equivalent experience.

Pay

$45,739 - $53,000

Schedule

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Some evening and weekends required.
