Installation Maintenance Worker
About the role
Seattle Parks and Facilities Maintenance Division are seeking qualified candidates to fill multiple vacancies as an Installation Maintenance Worker. These roles involve a broad range of maintenance responsibilities including:
Responsibilities
- Installation and maintenance of park furniture
- Irrigation Systems repairs
- Assisting with the maintenance and repair of surfaces such as walkways, roads, decks, tiles, etc.
- Supporting alterations and repairs to park structures, including buildings, pools, docks, shelters, restrooms, etc.
- Comfort station maintenance activities such as unclogging toilets, cleaning, and sanitizing, installing, and changing light bulbs in preauthorized fixtures.
- Replacing TP holders. Removing graffiti from various surfaces.
- Constructs wooden forms for concrete retaining walls, driveways, and concrete pads. Assists cement finishers by breaking up concrete with jackhammers, building forms and performing other labor support duties.
- Provides labor assistance to carpenters, plumbers, cement finishers, special support services, and electricians.
- Cleaning or prepping surfaces for external or internal painting, concrete sealant application, or floor coatings, painting small areas and performing small painting projects in comfort stations and picnic shelters, shelving, etc. and touch up painting of garbage cans.
- Ensures job site is clean and safe during and after projects.
- Makes minor repairs of short duration to door hardware, doors, jambs, comfort station partitions, and window glass.
- Safe work zone preparation for skilled trades to perform technical work.
- Work with Asset Management Work Order (AMWO) system.
- Repair/replace irrigation heads, backwash, and clean filtration systems, adjust valves, timers, and chlorination systems in fountains.
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
- May assist an electrician to replace heat tape on piping systems, make minor adjustments to certain electronic low voltage timers.
- Purchase materials and maintain equipment and tools.
- Coordinates and directs minor and major office moves and rearrangements.
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Qualifications
- Two years of in general construction and maintenance work with an emphasis on installation, repair and maintenance in a specific trade.
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing infrastructure in a public setting to include equipment such as play area structures, sport courts, signs, benches, picnic tables, barbecues, or other related equipment.
- Highly motivated and able to work as a team member in a demanding work environment, meeting tight deadlines.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and work order/asset management systems for tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Experience performing inspections, ordering parts and materials, and maintaining relevant inventory records.
- Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.
- Experience coordinating work with both internal and external work groups such as skilled trades, contractors, other maintenance groups, etc.
- Experience with small graffiti removal and painting.
- Experience in interacting with the public coupled with a high level of proficiency in customer service.
- Experience with demolition and small concrete and asphalt work.
- Current/valid fall protection certification.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks, aligning them with departmental needs.
Additional Information
Compensation: This position is part of a 2-Step Compensation program; The full salary range for this position is $37.39 (Step 1) – $38.84 (Step 2) hourly. Union Information: This position is represented by LiUNA Local 242 - Laborers and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
