About the Role

Performs a full range of maintenance and housekeeping services to ensure the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment, Navy Lodge guest rooms, and public spaces. Takes initiative to maintain all aspects of the facility in working order.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as scheduled by supervisor.
  • Handles various carpentry tasks, including alteration, repair, or maintenance of buildings or equipment:
    • Repairs doors, windows, office furniture, and replaces screens or wire window guards.
    • Builds, repairs, or installs cabinets, walls, sheetrock partitions, and ceiling tiles.
    • Measures and cuts materials to required lengths and dimensions.
    • Uses hand and power shop tools to complete assignments.
  • Paints interior and exterior areas, including walls, baseboards, shelves, counters, and cases:
    • Prepares surfaces by sanding, wire brushing, or other methods.
    • Uses pre-mixed paints, rollers, brushes, and spray equipment.
    • Maintains and cleans painting tools and equipment.
  • Makes electrical repairs on defective wiring, control equipment, and fixtures:
    • Installs circuit breakers and new wiring.
    • Removes, replaces, splices, solders, or insulates items using hand tools.
  • Performs plumbing repairs, including:
    • Removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility systems (e.g., traps, pipes, drains).
    • Threading pipe and tile, caulking, and sealing joints and faucets.
    • Using tools such as pipe wrenches, cutters, and caulking irons.
  • Patches potholes in parking areas using asphalt, jackhammers, or other heavy equipment.
  • Operates a motor vehicle for work duties:
    • Maintains a Daily Trip Report for all trips, including date, assignment, time, gas, and vehicle used.
    • Checks vehicle for proper maintenance and secures it at the end of the day.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and periodic inventory of maintenance stock and equipment.
  • Maintains compliance with local safety regulations and reports hazardous conditions or unserviceable items to supervisor.
  • Works independently under general supervision, using judgment to select tools and methods for assignments.
  • Performs outdoor tasks such as snow removal using salt, power equipment, or handheld tools.
  • Manages assigned pass keys, logs usage, and reports lost keys immediately for security.
  • Maintains Navy Lodge-issued uniforms (e.g., name tags, shoes, jackets) and assigned work equipment (e.g., radios, power tools).
  • Ensures overall cleanliness and upkeep of Navy Lodge facilities and work areas.
  • Greets and welcomes guests within 10 feet, maintaining outstanding guest relations.
  • Performs seasonal gardening and grounds maintenance:
    • Planting, transplanting, seeding, resodding, mulching, dusting, spraying, watering, cutting, pruning, and trimming trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass.
    • Using fertilizers, weed control supplies, and garden tools (e.g., seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, sprayers).
  • Picks up trash and cleans grounds, parking lots, and sidewalks daily.
  • Reports acts of vandalism or damage to facilities to supervisor or security personnel.
  • Assists with set-up and breakdown of chairs and tables for special events and cleans the area afterward.
  • Supports housekeeping operations to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

General Experience

  • One year of experience providing knowledge of general maintenance practices for buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment.

Substitution of Education for Experience

  • One year of high school education may substitute for 3 months of general experience, up to a high school diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

Specialized Experience

  • Three years of maintenance work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts and carries materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Works indoors and outdoors, exposed to dust, dirt, cuts, bruises, and varying weather conditions.

Schedule

Flexible (0 - 19.5 hours per week).
