The Work You Will Do

  • Ensure work completed by others within FDOT right-of-way meets all standards and is permitted through the Department.
  • Perform on-site inspections.
  • Maintain awareness of others doing work within the right-of-way that has not been approved by the Department and not permitted.
  • Interpret governing documents related to Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement, and materials to ensure safe work zones.
  • Review work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
  • Prepare records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.
  • Conduct surveys of signs, guardrails, and attenuators as required by procedures.
  • Provide survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI).
  • Fills out data coding sheet and enter roadway data into computer database as needed.
  • Gather data and perform preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs.
  • Aids in the preparation of maintenance contracts.
  • Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts.
  • Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned.
  • Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits.
  • Issues work documents on contracts as directed.
  • Performs plans reviews for constructability and adherence to Department Standards and specifications.
  • Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested.

Your Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way.
  • Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, and rules.
  • Perform approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.
  • Prepare records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • A Class E Driver’s License.
