Core Responsibilities
- Perform daily field inspections to ensure construction activities comply with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety and follow all established safety protocols
- Monitor contractor work for quality, safety, and adherence to project requirements
- Document construction activities through detailed daily reports, photographs, and quantity tracking
- Verify materials used and work performed meet project and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with Construction Managers, engineers, and contractors to address field issues and clarify design intent
- Review and track quantities for pay applications and maintain accurate records
- Observe and document testing activities (e.g., compaction, concrete, asphalt) and ensure compliance with specifications
- Identify non-conforming work and communicate deficiencies to appropriate parties for resolution
- Attend and support project meetings, providing updates on field progress and issues
- Assist with project closeout activities, including punch lists and final inspections
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–6 years of construction inspection experience, preferably in transportation or infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and inspection practices
- Experience with DOT or public agency projects is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions within established guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction documentation software
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ACI, ATSSA, LabCAT, OSHA) are preferred or ability to obtain
