Inspector I
About the role
This position involves observing, documenting, and verifying work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans. Duties include confirming procedures are followed and materials used conform to specifications, utilizing engineering inspection practices to perform rudimentary mathematical calculations and measurements, maintaining daily reports of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified, assisting in on-site material testing, and producing as-constructed sketches as required.
Responsibilities
- Observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans.
- Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
- Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform rudimentary mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date.
- Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
- Affords assistance in on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 1 year of construction experience.
- All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
Qualifications
- Reads and understands plans and specifications.
- Recognizes, documents, and escalates field issues.
- Calculates pay quantities.
- Understands change conditions.
- Understands Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills at an intermediate level.
What We Prefer
- West Virginia Division of Highways experience.
- WVDOH Transportation Engineering Technician Level 1 or Level 2.
