Inside Sales Shelter Specialist
Location: Des Moines, IA (100% onsite)
About the Role
Provide a high level of customer service in a positive and professional manner to research facilities, zoos, humane societies, rescues, shelters, universities with veterinary teaching hospitals, vet tech programs, doggy daycare, and grooming facilities. Assist with information on promotions, new products, pricing, recalls, and address questions and concerns with speed and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Call out to specified shelters, humane societies, or other non-profit/government facilities using provided focus lists, manufacturer lists, websites, and react account bases to solicit NEW and REACT business.
- Provide information related to Midwest Veterinary Supply, new products, promotions, recalls, and assist with placing orders and taking loop calls in the branch.
- Resolve customer demands, including problem-solving, assisting with paperwork, online ordering, My Vet Store Online, credits, returns, price quotes, and special orders.
- Complete research as a result of customer inquiries.
- Read, understand, and organize mail, faxes, and emails.
- Listen to branch and corporate voicemails and correspond with internal and external customers.
- Attend meetings, conference calls, and webinars.
- Set up appointments for Outside Sales Representatives (OSRs) to visit customers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Minimum of two years' experience within the veterinary industry (required).
- Minimum of one year of experience in customer service or phone sales (preferred).
- Shelter, rescue, or zoo experience (preferred).
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, employment policies, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Superior listening and verbal communication skills, including diplomacy and professional sales techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work accurately with highly detailed information.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry.

Work Environment
- Typically performed in an office environment with computer and telephone use for most of the day.
- Occasional local travel may be required; overnight travel is rare.
- Periodic visits to the warehouse.
- Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with potential for more than 40 hours per workweek.
