Inside Sales Representative
The Pond Guy / Airmax, Inc. is the leading manufacturer and distributor of pond, lake, and water garden products, including aeration systems, fountains, and water treatments—to a nationwide network of end-users and Airmax dealers.
About the role
As an Inside Sales Representative (Pond Tech), you'll work directly with customers who contact The Pond Guy looking for advice, products, and solutions for their ponds. During peak season, our team handles a high volume of inbound customer interactions, with Pond Techs typically assisting 50–70 customers per day by phone. Your goal isn't simply to answer the customer's initial question—you'll ask the right questions, understand their pond goals, educate them on their options, and recommend a complete solution.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with product questions, troubleshooting, sales, and order placement through phone, email, text, and chat
- Ask consultative questions to uncover customer needs and recommend the best solution
- Confidently overcome objections and help customers make informed purchasing decisions
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell products that support the customer's overall pond goals
- Follow up with leads, quotes, and previous customer inquiries through outbound calls and email
- Create individualized pond profiles and recommendations based on customer needs
- Research products and technical information using multiple resources to determine the best solution
- Document customer conversations, sales activity, follow-up tasks, and relevant information accurately within our CRM
- Assist customers with product, shipping, order, and post-sale questions
- Monitor your individual sales metrics and use performance data to identify opportunities for improvement
- Adapt to new sales tools, technology, and processes
- Participate in ongoing sales training, product education, and hands-on product demonstrations
- Occasionally participate in field or face-to-face retail training to strengthen product knowledge
How success is measured
This is a performance-driven sales role with commission tied to established sales metrics. Successful Inside Sales Representatives are comfortable knowing where they stand and using their results to continuously improve. You'll receive coaching, training, and visibility into your performance throughout the year.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of sales, consultative customer service, or related customer-facing experience
- Confidence communicating with customers and recommending solutions
- Ability to listen, ask questions, and document detailed information while actively assisting a customer
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort handling a high volume of customer conversations throughout the day
- Ability to move quickly between tasks and multiple software systems while maintaining accuracy
- Experience using CRM, sales, order-management, or similar business systems preferred
- Basic understanding of mathematical calculations, conversions, and ratios
- Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Hands-on mindset and curiosity about how products work
- Ability and willingness to learn extensive technical product information
- Technical or mechanical experience is a plus
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred
- Manual dexterity for typing, sitting at a desk, and looking at a computer screen for long periods of time
- Portions of the training require physical activity including lifting 25-35 pounds and standing for long periods of time
- Positive attitude; the words “can’t” and “impossible” are not part of your vocabulary
- Capacity to switch quickly from one task to the next
Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round position located onsite at our headquarters in Armada, MI. Shifts are typically 8 hours and fall between 9:45AM – 6:15PM (EST) Monday through Friday, with 2 Saturdays per month (8:45AM – 4:15PM EST) during March through October. The role requires onsite presence for the first year, with potential eligibility for hybrid or remote work after achieving performance milestones.
Pay
This is a full-time position with a base hourly rate plus commissions. The average annual compensation is $60,000 to $75,000. Additional paid time off can be earned based on sales metrics.
