About the Role
The Counter Salesperson will perform a variety of tasks to ensure smooth branch operation in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role requires a professional demeanor and a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Rent equipment and arrange for customer service through in-person and phone interactions, inputting information into the computer system.
- Prepare rental forms and contracts, obtain customer signatures, and gather required information.
- Maintain the daily contract file.
- Explain rental fees and provide details about rented items, including operations and descriptions.
- Process payments and deposits (cash and credit cards), make change, and balance transactions throughout the day.
- Answer telephone calls and receive orders by phone.
- Recommend rental and sales items to customers based on their needs.
- Reserve items for requested times and manage overdue contracts by updating and alerting supervisors.
- Receive incoming inventory and monitor retail sales merchandise levels, advising supervisors of low stock.
- Act as sales administrator for rental, sale, and repair contracts.
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable duties, including PO management, data entry, invoicing, and payment application.
- Report safety violations to supervisors.
- Assist customers with loading and unloading equipment, and demonstrate safety and operational features when necessary.
- Maintain showroom cleanliness, organize displays, stock shelves, and ensure overall tidiness, including customer restrooms.
- Perform duties in compliance with company safety standards.
- Complete other duties as requested.
Work Environment
- Requires intermittent physical exertion, including walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting or maneuvering heavy or awkward materials/equipment.
- Exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes may cause noticeable discomfort.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
- Selling experience.
- High school-level math skills.
- Mechanical troubleshooting experience is beneficial.
- Familiarity with the surrounding area and ability to read/understand maps.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills (verbal, written, non-verbal, listening, and presentation).
- Strong analytical skills, including problem-solving and interpreting policies/procedures.
- Knowledge of the market and products, with the ability to discuss technical aspects of machinery (e.g., aerial lifts, welders, generators, light towers, heavy machinery).
- Leadership skills, including creative thinking, decision-making, and goal-setting.
- Moderate computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and database systems.
- Ability to lift 70+ pounds as needed to assist customers with products.
- Ability to operate all equipment safely.
