Inside Counter Sales

About the role

Represents the company during the sales process by collecting customer product needs and design specifications over the phone or in person, and acting as liaison between purchasing, inside technical/design staff, production staff, and the customer.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, order placement, price and quotation requests, complaints, and scheduling of deliveries and installations; provide customer follow-ups.
• Initiate telephone calls to customers to generate sales and achieve projected sales goals.
• Actively increase knowledge of sales techniques and develop product and industry expertise through company training programs; learn about residential, rural, industrial, and commercial construction.
• Generate sales opportunities by researching client needs, industry competition, and the features and benefits of company products.
• Provide accurate and complete material take-offs for single/multiple family home projects.
• Provide technical assistance to drafting and engineering as required.
• Analyze and size various lumber products using appropriate software.
• Coordinate purchase and delivery of special products; obtain pricing, specifications, uses, and availability information.
• Code and input customer orders, pricing information, and additional data into the computer system.
• Create accurate and complete invoices, work orders, and sales tickets.
• Maintain stock levels on the sales floor and in the stockroom.
• Operate and balance cash register daily.
• Research credits, returns, and late payments as needed.
• Work with outside sales representatives to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attend periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of experience in the building material industry with extensive knowledge of product and application.

Work Environment & Physical Activity

• Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
• Must be able to stand and walk frequently throughout the day.
