Purpose
The occupational therapist assistant assists the occupational therapist in carrying out a patient’s established plan of care.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals
- Utilizes a variety of modalities as appropriate to enhance patient progress
- Instructs patients in varying programs appropriate to enhance performance and cultivate progress toward occupational therapy goals
- Communicates with and educates patients and their families regarding plan of care, home equipment recommendations, considerations for additional rehab, discharge planning, home exercise program, self-administered treatments, and family assistance
Requirements
- Graduate from an occupational therapy assisting program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
- Associate’s degree required
- State of Michigan Occupational Therapist Assistant License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date
- American Heart Association BLS or equivalent certification
