Inpatient Physical Therapist II - Per Diem (Weekends/Weekdays)

About the Role

Join our team of specially trained inpatient physical therapists who work with patients to facilitate safe discharge and provide ongoing treatment to medically complex patients. We see patients on every ward of Tufts Medical Center to treat a wide range of conditions including stroke, heart failure, heart surgery and transplants, trauma, orthopedics, and spine surgeries. Our physical therapy team provides guidance in developing clinical reasoning skills to allow each therapist to create individualized, clinically informed treatment plans for our diverse patient population.

Tufts Medical Center is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level 1 Trauma Center, and has a large cardiomyopathy program that provides mechanical circulatory support for heart failure patients. Our inpatient physical therapists collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support high medical acuity and medically complex patients’ overall treatment programs.

Responsibilities

• Assess, re-assess, and treat a variety of diagnoses with a high degree of professional competency and efficiency to ensure quality patient care, including pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general populations.
• Evaluate and treat patient pain, developing appropriate treatment plans to help patients attain maximum functional outcomes.
• Engage professionally with patients and families, involving them in the formation of the plan of care; formulate teaching plans based on identified learning, cultural, and psychosocial needs.
• Set realistic short- and long-term goals and plans of care related to patients’ physical therapy needs within musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems.
• Communicate clearly and appropriately with patients, families, physicians, staff, and all other customer groups.
• Supervise and educate students, evaluating their performance.
• Maintain and complete accurate and timely documentation in the medical record for all patients to promote communication with physicians and ensure proper reimbursement.
• Contribute to department operations to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness; adhere to billing guidelines, charges, insurance limitations, and other departmental operations.
• Prepare the department for Joint Commission surveys and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or necessary to ensure appropriate patient care.
• Attend intra-departmental rounds, team meetings, case conferences, and staff meetings.
• Independently stay up to date with required continuing education.
• Meet the organization’s attendance and punctuality requirements to ensure proper coverage and quality service.
• Follow established organizational precautions and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
• Collaborate directly with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patients, and families to promote maximum patient safety and independence in discharge planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Graduation from an approved school of Physical Therapy.
• Physical Therapy (PT) License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• One (1) year of experience as a Physical Therapist.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree (Master’s or Doctorate).
• Two (2) years of clinical experience.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing, walking, and transferring patients.
• Regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Requires manual dexterity for fine hand manipulation to operate a computer keyboard and provide quantitative testing and manual treatment techniques.
• Visual acuity for frequent computer screen and report use.
• Frequent communication internally and externally; must be able to exchange accurate information via phone, email, and/or in person.

Pay

At Tufts Medicine, we offer fair, competitive pay designed to attract, retain, and motivate highly talented individuals. The base pay range reflects the minimum qualifications for the role, with individual offers determined by relevant experience, certifications, education, skills, and internal equity.

Pay Range: $42.50 - $47.41 per hour.
