Inpatient Phlebotomy - First Shift Weekend Option

This position is eligible for a lump sum of $3,000 relocation and $2,500 commitment bonus.

About the role

Perform a variety of technical procedures involved in the procurement, processing, and evaluation of patient specimens for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Serve as hospital laboratory representative and liaison with outside clients, handling specimen collection, clinical specimen preparation, patient registration, order entry, and supply delivery.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized procedures, including cytogenetics, general laboratory tasks, Point-of-Care Testing, urinalysis without a microscope, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
• Obtain total volume, aliquot, and distribute all urine specimens; properly label containers and determine urine volume.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and medical personnel to resolve problems and explain procedures.
• Maintain laboratory records, register/accession patients and specimens, and perform order entry using standard equipment.
• Perform quality control, safety, and infection control procedures to comply with internal and external regulations.
• Receive and process specimens according to laboratory procedures; verify labels and ensure valid orders.
• Distribute specimens, supplies, and reports; perform messenger/courier activities as required.
• Maintain inventory, stock supplies, wash glassware, and assist with specimen/slide maintenance.
• Utilize hospital information systems and software for routine tasks.
• Perform routine maintenance, word processing, office tasks, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• For phlebotomy assignments, completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended.
• Certification as a Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized agency/board is recommended for Clinical Technician I and may be required for Clinical Technician II.
• Certification of Basic Life Support preferred.
• Acceptable certifications include: NHA (CLPlb), ASCP (PBT), IAPS, NPA, ASPT, NPCE, AMT, or others approved by Clinical Labs Leadership.

Qualifications

Clinical Technician I

• One year of clinical lab experience preferred.
• Alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Clinical Technician II

• At least 2 years’ experience as a Clinical Tech I or Certification as a Phlebotomist plus required competency for specified job responsibilities.
• Alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Skills

• Basic phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective communication and professional interaction with patients and customers.

Schedule

Friday, Saturday, Sunday – 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM

Pay

Eligible for a lump sum of $3,000 relocation and $2,500 commitment bonus.
