Responsibilities
- Prepares compounded non-sterile and sterile preparations inclusive of chemotherapy, IV additive solutions, and controlled substances for final pharmacist verification.
- Correctly interprets physician orders, selects, and measures appropriate medications for compounding, compounds, ingredients, and components in a sterile and competent manner, and inspects the final product for accuracy, labels the product, maintains records of the manufacturing process, and attains a final check by a pharmacist.
- Uses standard protocols to determine an accurate expiration or beyond-use date for each product prepared.
- Accurately interprets, fills, and prepares prescriptions with appropriate medications and/or medical supplies for pharmacist verification.
- Receives, checks, rotates, and places in stock all items received from pharmacy procurement section and identifies and reconciles any discrepancies to ensure correct items have been received.
- Inventories and replenishes OR and surgical area trays, RSI Kits, etc.
- Handles, manages, and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance.
- Operates and maintains automated dispensing unit dose systems, complicated pharmacy equipment, and repackaging software.
- Packages medications into single unit doses and prepares patient-specific doses as needed.
- Correctly inventories, assesses, and determines the need for floor stock and external medication.
- Fulfills restocking drug storage areas and refilling automated drug dispensing devices in all hospital areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Must possess a current State of Alaska Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern license.
Skills
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical equipment and instruments.

- Knowledge of drug names, drug strengths, and dosage forms.
- Knowledge of applicable computer system software programs.
