Responsibilities
- Implement an individualized treatment plan using skilled, evidence-based occupational therapy techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, functional mobility training, activities of daily living training, and modalities as indicated.
- Provide verbal and written instructions to patients, caregivers, and family members.
- Maintain current knowledge of occupational therapy techniques through continuing education, professional journals, and compliance with DNV and Medicare standards.
- Evaluate patients per department policy, demonstrating sound clinical reasoning to synthesize data and identify treatment diagnoses.
- Establish a comprehensive plan of treatment with measurable, functional long- and short-term goals and a defined discharge plan.
- Perform ongoing evaluations of patient responses to treatment, adjusting care as needed.
- Maintain accurate and current documentation in patient medical records, including evaluations, daily treatment notes, updated treatment plans, progress reports, discharge summaries, and billing sheets.
- Complete billing and billing sheets according to department procedures and within established timeframes.
- Assume responsibility for financial stewardship by utilizing resources effectively and efficiently.
- Confer with the interdisciplinary team to clarify treatment plans and discuss patient status, providing timely feedback to case managers and key personnel regarding discharge needs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and communicate information to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.
- Delegate appropriate patients to occupational therapist assistants, supervise their care, and provide updated treatment plans and instructions.
- Act as a resource for therapy-related issues to assistive personnel and staff from other departments.
- Assist in identifying department needs and process improvements, contributing to recruitment and retention efforts.
- Participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings, in-services, utilization reviews, committees, and student preceptor or mentor programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA-accredited university (required prior to starting employment).
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA-accredited university (preferred).
- Six (6) months of recent experience in a network float position (preferred).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Current, unrestricted license issued by the Arizona Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (required prior to starting employment).
Schedule
- PRN (as needed), Day Shift: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Rotating holidays and weekends.
