Inpatient Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

About This Role

This Advanced Practice Provider (APP; physician assistant or nurse practitioner) will be a member of the neurosciences team at Intermountain Medical Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center in Murray, Utah. The APP assists neurosurgeons in the care of patients hospitalized with a variety of neurosurgical conditions, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and tumors. After orientation to all aspects of neurosurgery and spine, the APP provides care in inpatient, outpatient, neurosurgical trauma, and neurocritical care settings.

The APP's primary responsibility will be inpatient care of neurosurgery patients, though they will also consult on patients in the ER, as well as new consults in the hospital, first assist with emergent surgeries, round with the Neurosurgery Care Coordination team, and be a resource to hospital nursing staff. Additionally, this APP may answer call pages from the floor, ER, clinic, and the answering service.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient care of neurosurgery patients
• Consulting on patients in the ER and hospital
• First assist with emergent surgeries
• Inpatient rounding with the Neurosurgery Care Coordination team
• Serving as a resource to hospital nursing staff
• Answering call pages from the floor, ER, clinic, and answering service

This role involves 24/7 coverage, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with varying 8-12 hour shifts.

Requirements

• APRN or PA-C degree from an accredited program
• Active, unobstructed Utah medical license, or the ability to obtain one
• BLS certification and DEA
• Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health’s credentialing process

An ideal candidate will have prior neurosurgery, neuro critical care, ICU, or hospitalist experience.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $57.33 - $88.47. Actual hourly rate is dependent upon experience.

• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often navigating crowded and busy rooms
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
