About the Role

The Pharmacy Technician III performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical functions independently, including compounding medications, preparing prescriptions, performing order entry, ordering medications, prior authorization of patient-specific therapies, and internal auditing. This position works with stakeholders inside and outside the pharmacy department to complete crucial and complex tasks relating to patient care, financial and billing practices, or regulatory compliance.

In conjunction with the Quality Assurance Sterile Compounding Pharmacist and Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Quality Assurance Sterile Compounding Technician coordinates personnel and compounding room compliance with USP Chapter <797> and USP Chapter <800>. This role also requires staffing in the IV room pharmacy to maintain competency, conduct training and education of new employees, complete competencies of current employees, and develop policies and procedures aligned with pharmacy workflows and facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex and unique duties within the pharmacy department.
• Interpret, evaluate, and summarize information and datasets of varying sizes.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders inside and outside the pharmacy department.
• Develop and maintain internal (within Fred Hutch) and external relationships (such as vendors, payors, distributors).
• Work independently and within teams to complete tasks.
• Document information or results in clear and concise ways.
• Generate and present reports of tasks to the Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy.
• Complete routine and as-needed environmental sampling of sterile compounding areas and coordinate action plans based on sampling results.
• Coordinate semi-annual recertification of compounding areas.
• Review all certifications and recertification records to ensure sterile compounding areas comply with requirements and prepare these items for review by the Quality Assurance Sterile Compounding Pharmacist and Pharmacy Operations Managers.
• Report any problems or failures (as related to sterile compounding) to pharmacists and ensure documented response with corrective action.
• Educate and train new employees to ensure competency of all individuals involved in sterile compounding.
• Recertify sterile compounding staff at required intervals.
• Write and review sterile compounding policies and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain record keeping relating to sterile compounding such as training records, area certification records, and cleaning records.
• Perform all primary responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician II.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Washington state pharmacy technician certification.
• 2 years of pharmacy technician experience.
• Maintaining Excel sheets.
• Familiarity with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
• Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
• Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, and enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently.
• Knowledge and experience compounding intravenous admixtures.
• Excellent communication skills and experience working with large teams.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is from $35.09 to $52.63, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) role that will work out of our South Lake Union Campus. This role will primarily be Monday through Friday but will include periodic holiday shifts dependent on clinical need.
