Infusion Center Pharmacist

Working with Pharmacy personnel. Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in a modern hospital.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
• Provides pharmaceutical consultation with doctors or nurses and takes initiative in questioning a prescription if necessary.
• Assists manager of Pharmacy in purchasing drugs from vendors and communicates with sales representatives of pharmaceutical companies as needed.
• Conducts drug checks and inspections on various floors as required.
• Assists with IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, compatibilities, and providing technical advice.
• May attend pharmacy-related hospital meetings as delegated.
• Assists the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program and floor inspection reports.
• For facilities with specialty accreditation: Completes annual required education related to specialty accreditation through CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.
• Serves as the primary pharmacist for a planned outpatient infusion center, participating in workflow design, recruitment, and training.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a current valid Pharmacist license through the state board where services will be provided:
  • Maryland: Maryland Board of Pharmacy
  • Ohio: Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
  • West Virginia: West Virginia Board of Pharmacy

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as a registered Pharmacist.

Skills

• Knowledge of growth and development and understanding of patient needs across the scope of treatment.
• Understanding of patient dynamics, including biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
• Knowledge of pain management to facilitate proactive patient comfort.
• Knowledge of total care for patients with non-curative diseases, focusing on symptom control.
• Familiarity with professional and commercial aspects of Hospital Pharmacy, as well as State and Federal laws governing Pharmacy.
• Computer experience is helpful.
• Demonstrates competency in patient care assessment for all patient population areas served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.

Physical Requirements

• Walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds.
• Dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach.
