Infusion Center Pharmacist

About the Role

Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in a modern hospital. Responsibilities include purchasing, continuing education programs, stocking supplies, preparing departmental reports, and maintaining an organized and efficient department.

Primary pharmacist for a planned outpatient infusion center. Will participate in center workflow design, recruitment, and training.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
• Provides pharmaceutical consultation to doctors or nurses and questions prescriptions when necessary.
• Assists the Pharmacy manager in purchasing drugs from vendors and communicates with pharmaceutical sales representatives as needed.
• Conducts drug checks and inspections on various floors as required.
• Assists with the IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, and compatibilities.
• Attends pharmacy-related hospital meetings as delegated.
• Assists the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program and floor inspection reports.
• Completes annual required education related to specialty accreditation (for facilities with such requirements).

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Current valid Pharmacist license through the state board where services will be provided:
  • Maryland: Maryland Board of Pharmacy
  • Ohio: Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
  • West Virginia: West Virginia Board of Pharmacy

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as a registered Pharmacist.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of growth and development, patient needs, and scope of treatment.
• Understanding of patient dynamics, including biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
• Knowledge of pain management to facilitate proactive patient comfort.
• Familiarity with total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on symptom control.
• Familiarity with professional and commercial aspects of Hospital Pharmacy, as well as State and Federal laws governing Pharmacy.
• Computer experience is helpful.
• Demonstrates competency in patient care assessment for all patient populations: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.

Physical Requirements

• Walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Lift up to 30 pounds and push up to 50 pounds.
• Dexterity required for fingering, handling, and reaching.
