About the role
Mat-Su College, a proud community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, seeks a skilled and collaborative Infrastructure Administrator to join its mission-focused team. The position supports academic and operational needs with secure, reliable, and high-performing systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, test, and assess servers, storage, and LAN components for implementation and maintenance.
- Maintain critical services such as VMware vSphere, Omnissa Horizon, Hyper-V, Active Directory (AD DS, AD CS), DNS, DHCP, GPO, and SQL.
- Monitor performance and ensure compliance with university standards and licensing requirements.
- Evaluate disaster recovery procedures and document recovery plans.
- Develop technical documentation, Change Management requests, operational guides, and project plans for system upgrades.
- Serve as an expert advisor for campus systems, providing solutions and high-level problem resolution, and coordinating support and licensing with external vendors.
- Manage firewall operations, conduct threat analysis, implement intrusion prevention strategies, and apply security patches.
- Assist with desktop (physical and virtual) management platforms such as Omnissa Horizon and MECM.
- Provide backup and mentoring for Desktop Technicians and IT student workers.
- Respond promptly to customer support requests.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in managing Windows Server environments (Server 2016 minimum, 2022 preferred).
- Enterprise-level experience with virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere and Hyper-V.
- Strong working knowledge of networking fundamentals including IP protocols, firewalls, Cisco switching, wireless LAN technologies, and cabling installation and termination.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a relevant field (Information Technology or other related field).
- 4 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
