Information Technology Specialist

Full-time position with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Rome, NY. Salary range: $57,331 - $121,502 per year.

Responsibilities

• Planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and management of systems environments in support of the organization’s IT architecture and business needs.
• Planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networked systems.
• Planning, development, implementation, and administration of systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data.
• Coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware/software systems.
• Planning and delivery of customer support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training in response to customer requirements.

Duties may be developmental in nature if the position is filled below the full performance level. This announcement recruits for multiple IT specialties, including but not limited to: Applications Software, Information Security, Network, Data Management, Customer Support, Systems Analysis or Administration, and Internet.

Basic Requirement

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. For vacancies below the full-performance level, the requirement will be evaluated on a developmental basis. Your resume and work experience should clearly support these competencies:

• Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing your own IT-related work or data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards. Your work or data is typically reviewed by a supervisor or colleague.
• Customer Service: Experience providing brief customer contact to offer information about IT products/services or delivering standard products/routine services to address IT needs.
• Oral Communication: Experience informing supervisors or IT staff about the status of systems, projects, or daily operations, including communicating basic technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Problem Solving: Experience identifying or selecting solutions for routine IT-related issues by gathering information from standard sources that provide limited solutions.

Education

In addition to the basic competency requirements:

• For entry at the GS-07 level: One full year of graduate-level education (or completion within 9 months of the job posting closing) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or superior academic achievement (SAA) with a degree that included at least 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields listed above, where the curriculum required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Combination of education and experience is not applicable for this position.

Experience

For entry at the GS-07 level: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 level in the federal service, demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.
