Responsibilities
- Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade, and support various storage and backup platforms and associated management tools
- Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies
- Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings
- Participate in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and technical service lanes
- Provide incident support and participate in on-call rotation during off-hours and weekends
- Create and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books, and other technical engineering documents
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes
- Oversee the installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures
- Oversee updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security
- Ensure systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, and utilization are collected and regularly reviewed
- Keep abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing future direction
Requirements
- Hands-on engineering experience with NetApp and other storage technologies and concepts (Storage Area Network - SAN & Network Attached Storage - NAS)
- Knowledge and understanding of protocols such as S3, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel Block Storage (SAN)
- Experience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments (including Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, Rubrik, & CommVault)
- Experience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environments
- Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies
- Senior-level experience with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centers
- Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environments
- Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet
- Strong understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc.
- Experience connecting storage arrays to Hypervisor Technologies (Nutanix, VMware VCF, OpenStack)
- Understanding of security best practices and federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.)
Qualifications
- Associates degree with fifteen (15) years of relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with twelve (12) years of relevant experience
- High school diploma with twenty (20) years of relevant experience

Pay
The salary range for this position is $78,000 to $250,000 per year, determined by the candidate's work location, specific role, skill set, and level of expertise.
