Responsibilities

  • Prepare classroom or training areas and pick-up and return training devices, as needed.
  • Perform basic maintenance on training aids and/or equipment, as needed.
  • Prepare and execute USCG Instructional standards in the conduct of classroom / laboratory / seminar / conference / discussion / lecture / demonstration / practical exercises per class training schedule.
  • Supplement the course curriculum and lesson plans by incorporating lessons learned from specific/relevant training and after-action reviews, doctrine; current and evolving Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) into the daily instruction.
  • Auxiliary responsibilities include assisting in conducting and assessing student critiques to identify strengths, weaknesses, and actions to improve performance; scheduling and conducting remedial training and student retests; maintaining and updating a class status reports reflecting number of students in training and class progression; reviewing and summarizing student course critique, scheduling remedial training as needed; conducting academic counseling; assisting in grading written tests; assisting in grading results performance tests; reviewing and grading homework projects and assisting in the preparation of student-written evaluation upon student graduation for certain courses; reviewing a student's record for progression; making entries on student record of training form; completing Training Quality Reports and completing reports on students identified as receiving deficient training; preparing, processing and forwarding required training records and/or any additional documentation IAW USCG Training Center (TRACEN) policies and procedures on student release prior to graduation; receiving instructor evaluations and modifying execution of instructional activities based upon constructive criticism from students, peer faculty and supervisors to improve performance outcomes.
  • Additional responsibilities include providing recommendations and solutions in the area of performance-based computer training and managing and maintaining classroom computer systems, performing all necessary troubleshooting, hardware/software upgrades, routine backups, and equipment replacement to support each class.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ Experience as a primary classroom instructor.
  • Certification in either CompTIA A+ or CompTIA Network+.
  • Must be a US citizen and must pass a background check.
  • Must possess subject matter expertise in the following areas: Data network software and hardware, Client/server environments, Microsoft products, CompTIA A+, Network+, Helpdesk management, Disaster recovery, Use of test equipment in the maintenance and repair of computer and related equipment, Troubleshoot and follow system administration/network maintenance procedures, Electrical safety, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Qualifications

  • No security clearance is required.

Skills

  • Expertise in Information Systems Technician operations.
  • Ability to prepare and execute USCG Instructional standards.
  • Knowledge of data network software and hardware, client/server environments, and Microsoft products.
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification.
  • Subject matter expertise in disaster recovery, helpdesk management, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot classroom computer systems.
