About the role
The Information Systems Security Officer III (ISSO) is responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for an information system. This role collaborates closely with the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Systems Security Officer (ISO).
Responsibilities
- Manage the security aspects of an information system, including physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness.
- Work in close coordination with the ISSM and ISO in monitoring the information system(s) and its environment of operation, developing and updating the authorization documentation, and implementing configuration management across authorization boundaries.
- Avoid changes that might affect the authorization determination of the information system(s) and notify the ISSM when changes occur.
- Periodically review information systems to ensure compliance with the security authorization package.
- Coordinate any changes or modifications to hardware, software, or firmware of a system with the ISSM and AO/DAO before the change.
- Maintain system recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are properly restored and functioning correctly.
- Ensure all IS security-related documentation is current and accessible to properly authorized individuals.
- Collect, review, and document audit records (including any anomalies).
- Attend required technical and security training relevant to assigned duties.
- Execute the cyber security portion of the self-inspection, providing security coordination and review of all system assessment plans.
- Identify cyber security vulnerabilities and assist with the implementation of countermeasures.
- Prepare reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems.
- Support in-house and external customers with ISSO duties.
- Conduct continuous monitoring activities for authorization boundaries under your preview.
- Assist Department of Defense, National Agency, and Contractor organizations with the development of assessment and authorization (A&A) efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Texas State Security Clearance (TS/SCI)
- Mandatory 5-7 years related experience, especially in developing Risk Management Framework (RMF) packages or bodies of evidence; prior performance in roles such as System/Network Administrator or ISSO; 2+ years SAP experience.
- Training: DoD 8570.01-M IAM Level II (in lieu of IAT Level II)
Qualifications
- Experience in managing information systems security, including physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness.
- Knowledge of Special Access Programs (SAPs), Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Special Access Program (SAP) activities.
- Ability to work in close coordination with the ISSM and ISO in monitoring and maintaining the security posture of information systems.
- Experience in developing and updating authorization packages, conducting periodic reviews, and coordinating changes to system configurations.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices, including vulnerability identification and countermeasure implementation.
- Ability to prepare and execute reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems.
- Experience in supporting in-house and external customers with ISSO duties.
- Experience in assisting with the development of assessment and authorization (A&A) efforts for Department of Defense, National Agency, and Contractor organizations.
