Infection Preventionist - Staff Development Coordinator

About the role

The Nurse Infection Preventionist evaluates the quality of resident care and outcomes as they relate to Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI) and Community-Acquired Infections (CAI) in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. This position is also responsible for Staff Development, which involves developing the competency of nursing staff to care for residents/patients of various adult ages and needs.

Responsibilities

• Collects, prepares, and analyzes HAI data
• Presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions
• Monitors Employee compliance with infection control standards through the use of barriers and infection prevention measures
• Prepares and presents education for the staff, residents, and families
• Serves as a resource to all departments and personnel
• Assesses the learning needs of the staff, plans and implements programs to meet these needs, and evaluates the outcomes
• Conducts outbreak investigations
• Responsible for monitoring Public Health Advisories from local, state, and federal agencies
• Maintains a system for reporting possible incidents of communicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies as required
• Serves as the on-site IPC for COVID-19 prevention and response activities, in accordance with current CDC recommendations
• Participate in staff meetings and assist with staffing needs when necessary
• Oversee the education of staff in different departments in regards to infection
• Personally inspect residents with infection
• Complete all documentation on paper or the EMR system
• Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Skilled Nursing Facility
• Accountable for surveillance of healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections

Requirements

• RN License in the state applying and be in good standing
• Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
• Knowledgeable of Infection Prevention and Control practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in the post-acute care facility
