Staff Development and Infection Prevention Coordinator

About the role

St. Joseph Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a Joint Commission, American Healthcare Association Bronze Medal Award-winning, short-term rehab, long term, and skilled nursing care community located in the heart of Boston/Dorchester. We are dedicated to our residents and team members and are currently hiring a Staff Development and Infection Prevention Coordinator (SDC/IPC).

Responsibilities

  • Observe and evaluate the clinical skills of staff to ensure adherence to Facility, State, and CMS policies.
  • Develop nursing staff knowledge and skills through training; utilize clinical data to determine education needs to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Cook up and coordinate the Licensed Nurse/Certified Nursing Assistant Orientation programs with preceptors in order to provide meaningful and effective training for newly hired nursing staff.
  • Lead the centers Infection Control Committee and manage the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
  • Maintain employee health and education files.
  • Implement new nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provide Certified Nursing Assistants with a minimum of 12 hours of education annually.
  • Maintain the Antibiotic Line Listing, report trends, and develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in the facilities QAPI Committee, presenting IC trends and improvement plan.
  • Provide education related to infection prevention and control principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families (where appropriate).
  • Ensure local public health is notified of reportable diseases.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid Registered Nurse, RN, license. LPN with nursing management/leadership may be considered.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, educate and evaluate in English.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook are required.
  • At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Management experience in the long-term care setting.
