General Summary
Plans, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control measures.
Responsibilities
- Maintains surveillance for known or suspected sources of infections and ensures their control.
- Reviews, analyzes, and implements regulations, standards, and guidelines from governmental agencies and professional organizations.
- Collaborates in the creation and delivery of educational programs and tools related to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.
- Reports infection surveillance, prevention, and control information to local, state, and federal public health authorities as required by law and regulation.
- Participates in the development of special studies to identify unusual epidemic situations or evaluate the impact of new products, equipment, or patient care delivery methods.
- Communicates study results to the Infection Control Committee and other relevant departments and committees.
Requirements
- Certification specializing in Infection Control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) is preferred.
- A Registered Nurse credential from the Michigan Board of Nursing is preferred.
Education/Experience
- High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
- 3 years of experience preferred.
- RN or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Master of Public Health (MPH) preferred.
- Infection prevention experience in an acute care setting.
