Infection Preventionist - Full-time

About the role

The Infection Preventionist at Stamford Health plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment by preventing and controlling infections. They are a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and are responsible for various aspects of infection prevention and control.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient safety and quality outcomes by ensuring a safe environment with minimal risks of infections.
• Establishes and maintains a facility-wide infection prevention and control program that complies with regulatory guidelines.
• Collaborates with all disciplines and departments to incorporate infection prevention principles in current policies and procedures.
• Serves as a liaison to the Employee Health department to establish and promote effective infection prevention protocols.
• Acts as a principle member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
• Collects, analyzes, and reports complete, accurate surveillance data.
• Provides current infection prevention information and coordinates the implementation of the infection prevention program.
• Develops and conducts in-service education programs for the prevention and control of infection.
• Assists in providing community education.
• Serves as a principle member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
• Conducts and coordinates epidemiological investigations of clusters and outbreaks.
• Assists in the evaluation of outcomes and provides follow-up to minimize risks.
• Participates in hospital, statewide, regional, and national committees.
• Selects care products and services from an infection prevention perspective.
• Serves on hospital/system-wide committees to provide infection prevention input and promote safe practices.
• Oversees infection prevention and control in outpatient locations.
• Participates in performance improvement efforts to promote compliance with standards established by regulatory agencies.
• Maintains appropriate disinfection and sterilization practices.
• Trains front-line staff in the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Current RN license in the State of Connecticut with a minimum BSN degree.
• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or willingness to obtain certification within five years of hire.
• Three years of experience in an acute care hospital or willingness to be trained.
• Awareness or experience with NHSN data reporting and analysis.
• Awareness or experience with Joint Commission requirements, OSHA, Department of Public Health, etc.
• Comfortable with leading forums, educational sessions, etc.

Qualifications

• Education: Current RN license in the State of Connecticut with minimum BSN degree.
• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or willing to obtain certification within five years of hire.
• Experience: Three years of experience in an acute care hospital or willingness to be trained.
• Other: Awareness or experience with NHSN data reporting and analysis, Joint Commission requirements, OSHA, Department of Public Health, etc.

Skills

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as the Joint Commission and CMS.
• Ability to conduct outbreak and cluster investigations as needed.
• Experience with infection prevention software for surveillance.
• Effective communication skills and public speaking ability.
• Comfortable with leading forums, educational sessions, etc.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm onsite in Stamford, CT. No weekends. No on-call.
